United As One Stamps

Project type

Product Design

Date

Spring 2025

A series of four stamp designs representing cultures that recognize nonbinary or third-gender identities. Each stamp is paired with textile patterns symbolizing hope, progress, love, and growth, creating a message of acceptance and cultural respect.

This project developed from a personal exploration of my own cultural background and gender identity, as well as the ways gender diversity is both stigmatized and embraced across different societies. Many cultures have long-standing traditions that acknowledge identities beyond the gender binary, each with its own meanings and roles.

In Hawaiian culture, for example, Māhū individuals have historically held respected positions as teachers, caretakers, and keepers of cultural knowledge.
